Pilmani

Natasha has been making pilmani for us for sixteen years. . . She made it today as we are planning to have a special family dinner for Jackie tomorrow night. As we sat at the table together, Natasha and I reminisced about the years that have passed and how the children used to love to help her in the kitchen. In the early years, Daniel raced to help turn the crank on the meat grinder, and Jackie loved to help "lepeet" the pilmani. I found an early picture of Daniel grinding meat to include here. Oh my, how the years have flown. . .
Many Kazakhstanis buy frozen pilmani as a quick and easy dinner but our family has never liked the high onion content of the store-purchased versions. Thus, a homemade (read: time-consuming) pilmani dinner is a special treat at our house. And Natasha's pilmani are the best! Wish you could enjoy them with us!
